All in a family...

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 15: 5-6

I moved to New York City several years ago leaving behind family and friends back home in Los Angeles. Therefore, one main aspect of my search for a church was to be able to have quality fellowship with other Christians, especially other sisters in Christ.

In my last blog post, I stated that in2 Church felt like a “distinctive family of God”. I think that this is important because a church should not just be about attending worship service on Sundays.

I have attended other churches where the services were fantastic with a mind blowing number of people in attendance. However, I also felt as if I could leave and come back without anyone noticing. It also seemed like small groups and special events would be best for those who had attended consistently for a long period of time.

It was fairly easy for me to become involved with the Crosswalk ministry. There were specific opportunities and I had certain interests. I am now a part of the intercessory prayer ministry and a contributor to this blog. I had a great time with the Bowery Mission outreach event – quality time was spent cooking and sharing a fantastic meal. I have also attended the women’s small group where we have explored the many attributes of God. Quality time has been spent eating dinner together, discussing God’s Word and sharing prayer requests.

I would not take back a second of the time I have spent at in2 Church. A family is defined as being “a group of people who are generally not blood relations but who share common attitudes, interests, or goals…” (Dictionary.com)

So, as the verse above states, may we be unified through Christ so that we can share a common goal of worship and showing God’s love. I have definitely felt that it has been happening, which has enabled me to have quality fellowship through the Crosswalk ministry.
